I had heard that one of the best ways to spend an afternoon in Sydney is to take a leisurely walk between Coogee and Bondi. The well-traveled path is located right on the water’s edge, offering amazing scenery for the entirety of the walk. You can do the walk in either direction and I chose to start at Coogee as I wanted to end up at Bondi.
There are a number of buses to both Coogee and Bondi, with Bondi offering more options. Nevertheless, I boarded a bus to Coogee and was surprised at how packed it was. I ended up having to stand for almost the entire 40 minute bus ride. Upon arrival, I was immediately met with some breathtaking scenery of high cliffs and calm waters.
The views were amazing and I could not put my camera down for the first while. In fact, a 5 minute walk turned into a 30 minute walk because I kept stopping every few steps for a new vantage point.
The walk took me from Coogee to Clovelly, which then took me past the Waverley Cemetery, before it brought me into Bronte Beach. The hillside cemetery reminded me of Ireland, even though I’ve never actually been to Ireland. It just had that type of feeling.
After Bronte, I reached Tamarama, which was the start of “Sculpture By The Sea”, a series of art pieces placed at various points along the walk from Tamarama to Bondi.
This is an event that happens annually and showcases so many different art pieces by various artists. With the ocean as the backdrop, it made for quite the sight.
After a long walk, I finally ended up at Bondi Beach. The total length of the walk is only 6km, but it took me over 2 and a half hours to get to my destination as I stopped numerous times to enjoy the views and take pictures.
