On our first morning in Suzhou, we made our way back to one of the streets that we had walked down the previous night, in search for some breakfast. We found this busy corner and saw a long line up for soy milk and Chinese donuts so we decided to try it. We ended up ordering some soy milk, a green onion pancake and an egg pancake to share. It was so delicious that we came back and ordered the same breakfast the next morning.
In fact, on the second morning the people who worked there recognized us. I guess it’s not that difficult when we were the only ones in the crowd speaking English. They asked where we were from and then one of the teenaged sons of the owner of the stall asked if we could show him what Canadian money looked like. We showed him a twoonie and a quarter and we ended up zipping up our wallet right away and the boy was like “I’m not going to steal your money” but then later on, we handed him the change and he ended up asking how much it was worth and whether he could keep them. It was actually really nice having that interaction with the locals and seeing how happy the boy was, just to see some foreign coins.
This was also the last place we ate at before we made our way to Shanghai. Every single one of our meals in Suzhou were a success.
