I visited the Wawel Castle twice in two days, while in Krakow. The first visit was on my own, as I was out exploring Krakow on a rainy day, while the second visit was during a Free Walking Tour. The Wawel Castle is of significance importance to Poland as it was the residency of Polish royalty. It now houses a large collection of art, including paintings, sculptures, porcelain and ceramics.
On my first visit, I climbed the stairs to the castle and was surprised to see quite a crowd, despite the rainy day.
The grounds are very pretty and the paths in front of the castle provided easy access to walk around the gardens.
I had better luck with weather during my second visit to the Castle grounds. The blue skies made the Castle and garden look even more impressive.
A fan of art could easily spend hours there, but I was content to just circle the outer grounds and enjoy the scenic views. Since the castle is perched up on a hill, you can also enjoy some views of the city as well.
