Amazing Pineapple Cake Experience At SunnyHills 微熱山丘

On our very last day in Taiwan, we decided to visit SunnyHills as we had read numerous good things about their pineapple cakes.  Pineapple cakes, being one of the signature food inventions of Taiwan is a common souvenir for anyone visiting the country and you can pretty much find pineapple cake in every store you walk into.  SunnyHills is a premier café-like establishment selling nothing but pineapple cakes, so you know they must be good.  The only downside to this place is that it is located just over one kilometre from the closest MRT station. 

The whole experience of this place was phenomenal.  Upon entering the store, you are led to a table and offered a cup of tea along with one of their signature pineapple cakes.  This is a complimentary service offered to everyone regardless of whether or not you make a purchase.  You are welcome to stay for as long as you like and the service is exceptional as the ladies would even refill your tea once you’re done.  There was never any pressure at all to purchase any of their products and in fact, none of their products were even put out on display.  I’m sure that after you taste these pineapple cakes, you will also walk out with a couple of boxes.  Everything is pre-packaged and you just to tell the girl at the till whether you want a box of 10 or 15 pineapple cakes. 

They are honestly among the best pineapple cakes I’ve ever tried.  The crust is extremely buttery and the inside is generously filled with real pineapple.  It is a bit sour compared to other pineapple cakes I’ve tried, but it is due to the fact that they use real pineapple.  I personally think this added quality overweighs a bit of the sourness.  The cakes work out to be $42NTD per piece and is sold in either a box of 10 or box of 15.

Getting there:  Songshan Airport MRT Station and Taipei Arena MRT Station are the closest, but both are still over a kilometre from the store.
