After spending a couple of days in Ho Chi Minh City, we flew into Hanoi and was pleasantly surprised by how much cleaner and nicer the city was, compared to Ho Chi Minh. The day we landed into Hanoi also coincided with Mid-Autumn Festival which meant the streets were filled with people, but businesses were closed. We started looking around for a place to eat and it took us about 30 minutes before we finally found a restaurant, (on the side of the street) that was open.
We thought that with it being a sidewalk restaurant, it would likely be much cheaper than eating at a “real” restaurant, but from the moment we sat down, there was absolutely no communication at all and the lady just started bringing food to our table without even asking what we wanted. It turned out to be just a set menu of spring rolls and BBQ pork and everyone else around us was experiencing the same thing. It was very delicious and I would actually eat there again, but when it came time to pay, we were shocked at how much it costed. We each had to fork out 75,000₫ (which in reality, is only about $3.50 Canadian), but we were expecting to pay around 30,000₫ at most, since we had visited restaurants earlier in the week that costed less than 50,000₫, and this was just a couple of plastic chairs on a sidewalk!
Regardless, the whole thing was quite the experience! When in Vietnam…
