A few of my friends had recently gone to one of those “spas” where you stick your feet into a pool of water full of fish who feed off of the dead skin on people’s feet. I was quite intrigued by this and had heard that these spas do wonders for your dry feet.
We decided to visit Dr. Fish in Hongdae and upon entering, I would describe this place as more of a café than spa. One side of the room was lined with tables where you could sit and order drinks. The other side was lined with sinks where you are expected to wash your feet before going into the pools.
Once you are ready, you head over to the middle of the room where two small pools are. The first one is filled with Turkey Doctorfish, which are the less aggressive ones. We decided to start here as we weren’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be too mild for us, as we could barely feel anything even when a few of them were nibbling at our feet at the same time.
After awhile, we made our way to the second pool, which consisted of the Chinese Doctorfish. These were bigger and a little bit more aggressive, but even then, it was quite bearable. When they bit, it felt more like a little tingling.
We probably stayed for about an hour before we decided to leave. It was quite a neat experience, but seeing as to how mild the fish were, I don’t think it really helped much with the dead skin on our feet.
