It calls itself the most beautiful café in the world, so prior to visiting, my expectations for this café was sky high. Once a popular spot for writers and scholars to gather, the building is now a modern hotel with an Old Italian renaissance style café.
I arrived promptly at 8am on a Saturday morning as it was my plan to enjoy breakfast there before catching my flight home to Canada. Upon arrival, the doors were still locked and as more and more people gathered, we all became curious as to why the café wasn’t opening on time. In the end, people started entering via the hotel doors instead. I’m still unsure of why the main café doors were never opened.
The breakfast buffet consists of an extravagant spread of both hot and cold menu items and will set you back 7500HUF (approximately $35CAD). Given the atmosphere and selection of food, I didn’t find the price to be outrageous. I found the service to be a bit lacking, but that could very well be because I was expecting North American standard service levels. The wait staff were happy to leave you alone and only come to your table when you flag them down.

I would definitely recommend spending some time at New York Café to enjoy the ambiance and atmosphere. If you time it properly, they even have live music in the afternoons. Their menu and prices are listed online if you wanted to get an idea of costs beforehand.
