One late summer afternoon, I found out that the 6th grade students were planning on going on a hike the next day and their teachers asked if I’d like to join. I figured it was better than being stuck in a classroom, so I readily said yes.
The next day, everyone gathered outside the school and we started walking towards the beginning of the trail. This turned out to be about a 20-30 minute walk itself before we reached the start of the trail. The hike was actually really nice. It wasn’t too difficult, although there were some steeper parts near the top. It was tough for some of the kids though as there were some stairs along the way, that were about knee high in height so it was difficult for some of the smaller kids to handle.
The views at the top were spectacular and I loved seeing the kids outside the classroom. The way they interacted with their classmates and friends is so different from within a (somewhat stricter) classroom setting.
The hike itself only lasted about 30-45 minutes but we rested at the top for a bit and then also rested again once we reached the bottom. It was a really nice way to spend a morning and I wish we had had the chance to do it more often.
