Hong Kong Disneyland opened in the fall of 2005, so it was still the newest Disneyland when we visited in 2010. Unfortunately, it was a miserable day weather wise so we weren’t able to enjoy it as much as we would have liked. Likely due to the weather, the park wasn’t actually that busy and many of the businesses within the park were closed.
Our adventure started with the subway ride from MTR Hong Kong Station to MTR Sunny Bay station, where we then had to transfer to the pink line to take us to MTR Disneyland Resort Station. The pink line is specifically for Disney, so the train was filled with all sorts of Mickey Mouse décor.
The entrance is exactly like what you would expect of any Disney amusement park. Main Street USA also appeared right after you entered.
We started in Tomorrowland with the Star Command Suppliers ride. You can really tell how miserable of a day it was with how wet everything was!
From there, we made our way to Fantasyland and noticed a line forming in front of It’s a Small World, so we decided to join the line to see what that was about. Turns out it was a relaxing boat ride through a maze of different displays representing many different countries and continents. It was quite a nice ride and allowed us to get out of the rain for awhile.
Adventureland was next and we attempted to try the Rivers of Adventure ride, but it was just too cold and even some of the souvenir shops and snack shops in the area were closed. We decided to walk back towards Tomorrowland again. On the way, we passed this sand castle, which I was surprised to see was still standing after all the rain we had that day.
I remember riding Space Mountain for the very first time when I was 8 years old in Disneyland in Anaheim. It is one of the only memories I have of that trip. I rode Space Mountain again when I was in my teens on my second trip to Disneyland, so this would be my third time on the ride. The one in Hong Kong is pretty much exactly like the one in Anaheim. Luckily with it being so rainy, we didn’t have to wait very long to get on the ride at all.
Our last ride of the day would be Autopia in Tomorrowland. By the time we finished with this ride, we were really sick and tired of the rain and decided to call it a day.
Disneyland Hong Kong is definitely must smaller than Anaheim’s version, so the number of rides is limited. If we had had good weather, the park would have been packed with people, so in a way, it was a bit of a blessing in disguise that it was rainy. It was still a very enjoyable afternoon even though it was colder and rainier than expected.
