Los Angeles is one of the most spread out cities I’ve ever been to and before traveling there, I wasn’t able to grasp the concept of just how widely spread out it is.
For our extended weekend trip, we decided to stay near LAX which had its advantages, but also its disadvantages. After picking up our car rental, we were at the hotel within 5 minutes and luckily a room was available for us to check into even though we had arrived at 9am in the morning. The front desk staff were friendly, efficient and very accommodating and it made for a lovely first impression.
In my opinion, the hotel is your typical 3.5 star hotel. The rooms were a good size, but lacked a few amenities. The room offered coffee and tea, but did not include a fridge. The biggest surprise for me was that the room did not include a safe. For a hotel of this nature, I assumed that would have been a basic amenity.
The beds were very comfortable but the hotel only seem to have double beds and not queen beds, which wasn’t really an issue for us, but may not be preferred by some people. One other thing we noticed was that there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, but that does seem like quite a common occurrence in the States.
The lobby offered a restaurant and a morning coffee bar, and if you are an IHG member, you receive 10% off at both places. There is also a water station next to the front desk where you can access drinking water at any time of day. Although we didn’t make use of it, there is also a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. On their website, it also stated that they have a complimentary shuttle to downtown which I was surprised at, given the distance, but in the end, the front desk confirmed that that was incorrect and they’ve never had such a service.
Parking at the hotel is actually offered by a private service, located across from the hotel. The charge is $15 per entry or $28/day for in and out privileges. After entering the parking lot and retrieving your ticket, you can bring your ticket to the front desk and they can add the charges to your room, instead of having to pay at the ticket machine each time.
Overall, it was a great stay and if you looking for something close to the airport, the Crowne Plaza offers great value.
