The day before we were set to depart Morocco, we had booked a room at the ibis City Center based on the fact that it is located directly across from one of the train stations in Casablanca. I had an early morning flight and this would provide easy access to the train that would take me back to the airport.
The back of the Ibis faces the train station, so when you leave the train station, you have to cross the street and then walk all the way around to get to the front entrance. They had 2 security scanners at the front and a security guard standing in front of them, but in the 2 days we were there, I saw that people were just walking any way they wanted and weren’t walking through the scanners at all.
Check in was a bit of a pain as the front desk staff were not the friendliest I had encountered. There were 3 men standing behind the desk and one was helping another customer but the other 2 were just standing around and not doing anything. Finally, one of them attempted to help us by asking us to first fill out some paperwork. Once all of the paperwork was completed, we were asked to pay for the room and when I mentioned that we would be paying in cash, they rounded the amount up to the nearest 10. I started looking through my phone for the confirmation and they realized I knew the quoted cost wasn’t correct and then changed their minds and told me the actual cost again. Although it isn’t a large amount of money, it still left a bit of a sour taste in our mouths.
The room itself was very nice for an Ibis. We had a room on the 15th floor with a view of the train station and the port. The room consisted of 2 twin beds, a small closet and a nice sized bathroom. The shower even had a rainshower jet which was an added bonus. The room itself wasn’t very large but it was fine for one night.
We returned to the hotel that day around 6pm and decided to stay and have dinner there. They had a big buffet restaurant but we decided to sit in the bar and order a few items a la carte. The service at the bar was also a bit lacking as it took 3 reminders for us to get a drink. Again, the men at the bar were just standing around and chatting but could never remember to get our drinks to us.
Overall, I was a bit disappointed in this hotel as the appearance is very nice for an Ibis, but the service was quite lacking.
