Upon entering the lobby of the Ibis Brisbane, I was pleasantly surprised as the lobby seemed much too upscale to be an Ibis. It looked more like a Novotel’s lobby. The check in was smooth and I was provided a key to a room on the 14th floor.
I was booked into a standard queen room with one bed, but when I opened the door, I realized I was actually put into a room with two queen beds. The first thing I noticed was a small gift from the Customer Relations Manager. She had set aside a tiny koala, a pencil, a package of Tim Tams, and a hand written note welcoming me to the hotel. It was such a nice gesture!
As it is a room with two queen beds, the size of the room was much larger than I was expecting. The décor was a bit outdated, especially the tiles in the bathroom, but I didn’t mind as I quite liked having the extra space.
My only complaint about the room is that there are no electrical outlets that are easily accessible. I searched high and low and the only accessible outlets I could find are behind the table, but I had to unplug the lamp and telephone that were already plugged into those outlets. It just seems strange that a room this size doesn’t have more outlets, especially when the room offers complimentary Wi-Fi for up to 5 devices.
The room requires you to put your room card into a slot before the fan would turn on, so on a hot summer’s day, the room could be quite hot when you enter. It didn’t take too long to cool down though. The strange thing was that the card wasn’t required for the electricity to be kept on. You’d think that the card would be required for everything in the room to work, but this was not the case.
The hotel is located about a 7 minute walk from Roma Street Station, which is where I went to take the train to the airport. It is also located within walking distance to the City Loop buses, which made it quite convenient.
The hotel was convenient for me and I would consider staying there again if I were to ever return to Brisbane. The time and effort that the Customer Relations Manager took in preparing the note and gift made the stay quite memorable for me.
