I had made a reservation for 3 nights at this property about 3 months prior to my trip and had advised the hotel that our flights were not arriving until 11:00pm, so we would likely not be at the hotel before midnight.
Upon arrival, the front desk told us that they did not have any rooms for the night and that they could take us to a guest house located down the street. After hours and hours of flying, and a mix up with several taxi drivers, we were exhausted and just wanted a room for the night. We didn’t quite understand why we needed to be relocated when we had confirmed a reservation 3 months prior.
At this point, we didn’t feel like arguing and just followed the man who had grabbed our luggage and were walking across this man-made bridge of wood piled high on top of some branches. It was past midnight at this point and the path wasn’t lit so needless to say, we were a bit skeptical about where we were being taken. It wasn’t until the next morning that we realized just how crazy this bridge was and noticed the sign that said not to cross.
They told us that they would have rooms for us for the next 2 nights, so early on the second morning, we went back to the hotel and this time, we were met with better news. The guy behind the counter, (who I suspect is the owner) offered us free breakfast and then gave us a room right away, even though it was quite early in the morning. While eating, we saw at least 2 couples come in with their suitcases from the guest house, so obviously we weren’t the only ones that had to be relocated the night before.
Our room was great – nice and clean. The hotel staff were courteous. After the first night, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but our stay actually turned out pretty well. We did request a wakeup call that never came through though.
The hotel also had a beautiful rooftop lined with lounge chairs, a pool and a great view of the city.
Although my first impression of this hotel was horrible, the hotel was able to redeem itself after the mishap of the first night.
