Of course the very first thing that caught my attention, was the name of this place. Upon researching things to see in Chongqing, I came across this place and knew I would need to see what it was about.
Contrary to the name, this actually turned out to be some sort of amusement park. It consisted of a strange miniature collection of many of the famous sites around the country, including the Great Wall, and then Chinese Pavilion from the 2010 Expo, but also included some random signs with English and even miniature versions of other world famous places like Park Güell from Barcelona.
I later found out that this was a place where foreigners had been encouraged to set up shop, which resulted in the name being Meixin Foreigner Street.
We spent some time walking around and then ended up inside what looked like a mini-factory. It was just strange and chaotic, because on one side, there was a long line up of people waiting to purchase bread. Then on another side of the room, there was a karaoke machine and people were lining up to sing. Then, in the middle was a water station where you could purchase water. We decided to line up for some bread and waited in line for about 20 minutes to do this. We weren’t even that hungry, but we each bought a loaf and ate them as we walked back towards the exit of the park. The bread turned out to be the best part and it’s no longer there was a huge line up to purchase this. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and smelled so fresh.
The rest of the park was actually not that memorable. It just seemed like a random collection of ideas that weren’t totally thought through. The bread was definitely the highlight of the park for me.
