My First Visit To a Japanese Market

I had previously visited Kyoto a few years ago and had spent 4 days exploring the typical tourist sites, such as the Silver Pavilion, Arashiyama, and Kiyomizu Temple.  This time around, I only had one day in Kyoto and we decided to take in some shopping at Shinkyogoku Street, around the Nishiki Market.

We took a train to Sanjo Station and as soon as you exit out of the station, you cross a bridge and then you are in a shopping area.

We decided to walk around Nishiki Market first to see what a Japanese market would be like.  As expected of Japan, everything was neatly organized and packaged.  There weren’t too many people at the market in the early afternoon, so that helped prevent it from becoming too chaotic.

We made our way back to Shinkyogoku Street, which is a covered shopping street with restaurants, souvenir stores, and anything else you could want.  Although the street seemed to target a younger crowd, there were some higher end restaurants in the area as well.  There was also a mall entrance in the middle of the street, and inside the mall are those very popular sticker photo booths.
