Upon the recommendation of a friend, we decided to spend an afternoon at the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyuken (海遊館). It is supposed to be one of the largest aquariums in the world.
Conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from Osakato Station, you will spot the Aquarium next to the Tempozan Ferris Wheel.
When you enter the aquarium, one of the first things you’ll see is the tunnel tank. I had only seen this type of tunnel in a Taiwanese drama before and never in real life, so I found it to be quite amazing.
The tour of the aquarium starts on the top floor and as you progress through the tour, you will realize that you are actually walking back down toward the ground floor by circling the central tank. There were actually quite a few tanks that were so large, that they were stretched over a few floors.
It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and I can easily understand why this is one of Japan’s top aquariums. The sheer size and magnitude of this place is second to none. My favourite part of the aquarium is the tunnel tank, but a close second would be the large jelly fish exhibit. I found all the different varieties to be quite fascinating and couldn’t help but capture some of them in photos.
