I knew that the Busan International Film Festival is a huge deal and every year, many big names from Hollywood and all over the world descend upon Busan to enjoy the festival. Since this is such a large part of Busan’s culture, we decided to visit PIFF Square while we were in the city. PIFF stands for Pusan International Film Festival, and although in Korean, the city is spelt with a B (Busan), the English translation of the city name uses both Busan and Pusan interchangeably, and thus creating the confusing of whether the acronym should be BIFF or PIFF.
I’m not a big film buff at all, but I thought it would be quite neat to visit the square anyways. Perhaps it wasn’t the correct time of year, but there really wasn’t that much going on in the area on the day we visited. There were some landmarks and statues but otherwise, we wouldn’t even have known we were in the PIFF Square.
I can imagine this place to be hopping with excitement when the festival is in place in October, but in July, it was just an empty square with some businesses.
