同記安平豆花 Tong’s Anping Tofu
This place was packed and we had to line up for a bit before we were able to place an order for one of their famous tofu desserts along with a shaved ice. They didn’t offer any fruity flavours, so we ended up getting red bean and tapioca in both desserts. It was the first time I’d seen ice cream in a shaved ice, but I quite liked it. I’ve always found shaved ice to be lacking in flavour, even with all the fruit or red beans, so the ice cream definitely added some needed sweetness and was a good complement.
周氏蝦卷 Chou’s Shrimp Rolls
We ended up trying 2 of the better known Tainan foods here at this restaurant. This particular restaurant chain is known for its’ shrimp rolls. I found the appearance to be a bit disappointing and the taste a bit lacking. It just tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. The second aforementioned famous Tainan specialty is the Dam Dam Noodles. We found this dish to be much better than the shrimp rolls that the restaurant is most famous for. Along with some vegetables and a Luoro rice, we had a nice light lunch.
茂記安平黑豆花大王 Mao’s Anping Black Tofu King
There were road maps on the street corners of Anping and I happened to notice the name of this restaurant on the map. I was very curious about this black tofu, so we decided to give it a try. Turns out it is basically the same as the regular tofu dessert. People say that the black soybeans which black tofu is made of is more gelatinous, but I honestly couldn’t taste the difference. Either way, it was still very delicious and worth trying.
