Both soccer and baseball are huge in Korea and when one of my friends suggested we go and catch a soccer match in Seoul, I was all for it.
The game was playing on a Wednesday evening and required that I take the bus into Seoul right after work. We met at the Worldcup Stadium Station, which leads right up to the stadium. After grabbing some snacks we headed towards the stadium and on the way, I bumped into a handful of my students who were also there to watch the game. These kids were in 5th and 6th grade and were all on the school soccer team, so it looked like it was a team event, although I didn’t see any adults with them.
After making our way to the seats, the game started and I was surprised to find that there were quite a few empty seats. However, it wasn’t an important game that would affect standings, so perhaps that was why it was fairly empty.
Prior to Korea, I had been going to hockey games at home, so it was nice to be at a professional game to enjoy the kind of atmosphere that can only be enjoyed at these places.
The only thing was that the game ended late and since it takes close to 2 hours for me to travel home, it made for quite a long night, since I still had to wake up for work the next day.
