When people think of Budapest, they often think about the Danube River running through it and the beautiful promenade along the river. I started off at the Parliament Buildings to admire the beautiful building and surrounding area.
From there, you can step down directly to the promenade for beautiful views of Buda.
A short walk will lead you to the Shoes on the Danube, a beautiful memorial to honour the many Jews that died during World War II. Back then, they made the Jews take off their shoes before shooting them from behind, which resulted in their bodies falling into the Danube. This memorial is meant to represent the shoes that were left behind when those events took place.
A few minutes more and you will reach the Chain Bridge, perhaps the best known of all the bridges that connect Buda and Pest.
The bridge is a very busy place with all sorts of things happening at all times. I saw some construction workers carrying blocks of wood, cyclists carrying bicycles, and of course, there were many tourists trying to find an open spot to take pictures of the splendid view.
I returned to the area after the sun set, and the Chain Bridge looks just as impressive at night as it did during the day. This time, I walked along the river on the Buda side and took in the views of the Parliament Building across the river.
Budapest has some of the best views, and I’m glad that I was able to see it for myself, both during the day and during the night.
