My friend had done this excursion in Cozumel and highly recommended it. It would give us a chance to see some of the more local areas of Cozumel that someone staying around the port wouldn’t get a chance to.
For anyone who is interested in participating in this race, they do change it up every so often, but please do know that I will be going into some details in regards to the tasks and missions, so please be aware of that.
As soon as we landed, we met up with our guide, Eduardo, who is one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever met. After we filled out a form, we were put onto a bus and driven about 10-15 minutes to downtown. From there, we were given detailed instructions on how to run the race and the first clue. The first clue asked that we look at 2 small pictures and find the differences between them. Once we figured out the differences, a code was revealed and we were then sent running to find a local market. The market was really cool because we had to search within the market for a clue, which meant we got to walk around a crazy and loud local market.
From there, we made our way to one other spot before we were led to the ferry port. At the port, all the teams met up to take a small boat to the middle of the Caribbean Sea to see a sunken ship. Since we were just a small group of 10 participants, our guide asked that we all work together to get the clue for this part of the race.
Once back on land, we made our way to the museum, which is where we spent most of our time. We had to scour the entire museum for clues and it took us quite a while to find them. Although, if any part of the race were to take a long time I’m glad it was at the air conditioned museum!
From the museum, we went to a local souvenir store and then a henna artist before we reached our final destination. At the final pit stop, we were given some drink tickets to keep us hydrated as the guides finished the calculations on who came in first, second and third places.
Our team ended up second that day and it was just the cherry on top of an amazing excursion. It was such a hot and humid day that you really needed to have water with you. They didn’t supply any water until the very end, although at the ferry port, there were vendors selling water. The entire race wasn’t very long. In fact, I think it was under an hour, but when you include the prep and transit time, we spent about 3 hours out there.
We also didn’t get a chance to take any pictures because we were running around the entire time. Thankfully, the guides were diligent and took many photos for us and posted them all on facebook.
