After enjoying Nanta a few months ago, I had wanted to try and catch a few other shows before my year in Korea was up. The opportunity came when a few of us decided to go and see a few dance shows. This was one of the first ones we chose and boy was it amazing!
I had known that the b-boy culture in Korea is really big. Even when shopping in Myeongdong, I have come across some street performances and when I went for my official GEPIK training, we were also entertained by b-boys, so it wasn’t surprising for us to find a performance that involved a b-boy.
The performance takes place inside a little theatre near City Hall and we walked along the infamous outer wall of Deoksugung to get to the theatre. There is an old superstition that if you walk along the outer wall of Deoksugung with your lover, you will end up breaking up – good thing the bunch of us headed to the show together were just a bunch of single girls. The walk was actually very beautiful, along a tree-lined road.
The performance started right on time and actually allowed us to take photographs and videos. From the title of the show, I’m pretty sure everyone can guess what the story line is, so we were there to watch the dancing and the performance more than to follow a storyline. It was amazing and I was excited for the next performance I would take in.
