Posillipo is a residential area located about 30-45 minutes from the city centre. It is one of Naples’ most affluent neighbourhoods and a huge contrast from the garbage and graffiti lined streets of the city centre.
The reason that I had wanted to travel to Posillipo is because I had heard that there is amazing scenery from the top of Posillipo Hill. Well, Posillipo did not disappoint, as it definitely offered amazing views as soon as I stepped off the bus. My only regret is that I wasn’t there later at night to see the views during sunset.
I took Bus 140 from Castel Nuovo all the way up to Posillipo Hill. I was previously told by the owner of the B&B that I was staying at, that I just need to get off the bus at the very last stop. However, I was entranced by the views I saw along the way and decided to stop near the top to take in some of these breathtaking views.
I continued walking up the hill but discovered that I must have gotten off the bus much too prematurely as the terminal station could not be seen. After about 20 minutes, I decided to turned around and started walking back down the hill again, as there didn’t appear to be anything other than residential homes. I walked down halfway and then noticed a bus coming down the hill, so I hopped on and got off at the bottom of the hill along Lungomare, a seafront promenade.
Unfortunately, like much of Naples, the area was lined with garbage and litter and there was an overwhelming smell that made the stroll less pleasant than it should have been.
