The Carmelis Cheese Factory

I wasn’t sure what to expect before our visit to the Carmelis Cheese Factory.  We had quite a bit of downtime during our trip to Kelowna, so we decided to visit the local cheese factory to pass some time and to possibly try out some unique cheeses.

The trip to the cheese factory from downtown Kelowna took about 20 minutes.  The location is quite remote and there really isn’t much to see in the surrounding area.  It is propped up on a little hill, making for some pretty views of the water underneath.

Upon arrival, we discovered that it was very small and basically consisted of a little café that doubled as a gift shop and an open area where goats were roaming about freely.  We started by going to the goat viewing area and not long after, we were already in the gift shop looking at the various cheese for sale.  The goat viewing area is quite far from where the goats actually were and so there really wasn’t much to do except to watch them from afar.  I’m not sure if it’s different on the weekends when they are bound to be busier.

Inside the café, you are able to sample many of the cheeses as well as purchase some gelato.  Many of the goat cheese were very subtle and quite tasty, so we ended up purchasing a bunch to take home.

Although we were there on a long weekend, the place wasn’t busy at all, which made it really easy to just walk around and enjoy the views.
