On my very last day in San Francisco, I found this museum near the outskirts of Chinatown and thought I’d pop in to see what it was all about. As San Francisco is the home to the oldest Chinatown in North America, I wasn’t surprised to find this kind of museum here. I love reading up on things related to the early Chinese settlements in North America, as it never stops to amaze me how Chinese people migrated to every inch of this earth over the past few hundred years.
I also learned that Toishan (the birthplace of my paternal grandparents) was actually not known by this name until 1914 and Guangzhou didn’t try to become a separately administered city until as late as 1918.
I learned all sorts of neat and interesting facts about the history of Chinese migration to America. This museum was very informative and I very much enjoyed spending an hour or so here.
