One of the most photogenic places in Los Angeles has to be The Last Bookstore. It is, by far the coolest bookstore I’ve ever been to, and on any given day, I think you can probably find just as many tourists there taking photos, as locals spending a leisurely time reading through second hand books.
At the entrance, you are required to check all back packs, or larger bags and you’re told that flash photography is not permitted. Once inside, you will not immediately notice how distinctive this place is, as it just looks like any old library I’ve ever been to, with the exception of a few cool decorations and a special room that looked like a vault.
The second floor is where all the magic is. If you’ve ever seen photos of this place on the internet, it’s likely it was taken on the second floor. Immediately upon reaching the top of the stairs, you are greeted by a couple of really unique displays.
As you move further along into the bookstore, the displays and sights just get more and more jaw dropping. How did someone think to do this? And more importantly, how did they do it and has anyone ever accidentally knocked something down?
As we were leaving, I noticed that even the checkout desk is made of books!
We didn’t end up at the bookstore until around 9pm at night and even at that hour, there was no shortage of visitors. I’d imagine that this place would be packed to the brim during the day.
