Having visited Asia numerous times, I was used to seeing strange and cool vending machines, but I had never seen one distributing raw milk before! I was particularly interested in finding out what raw milk tastes like, since it is not available in Canada.
Apparently there were a number of these vending machines throughout Ljubljana but the one that most tourists will likely run into is located on the east side of a parking lot where the Central Market is.
You can purchase a plastic or glass bottle on the right and then fill it up with milk on the left. Of course, most of the locals usually bring their own, reusable bottles.
I really liked that you could choose the amount of milk you wanted to purchase. You could purchase as little as €0.10 (100mL) or as much as €2.00 (2L) at a time, and the price would be the same. I had just enough change for either 200mL or 1L, so it was an easy decision to purchase 200mL to try.
The milk was delicious, and tasted no different than regular whole milk at home. Now if only someone could put a cupcake vending machine right next to this…
