For one of my dinners in Melbourne, I made my way to Hawker Chan, after learning that the one in Singapore is known as the cheapest Michelin restaurant in the world. I had heard that people often line up for hours to get in, so I purposely went later at night to try and avoid the crowds. My strategy worked and I didn’t even have to wait at all when I arrived. I walked straight up to the front and placed an order for the soya sauce chicken noodles and a trio of meats.
I’m not usually a soya sauce chicken fan, but since this is the dish that won them the Michelin star, I felt obligated to give it a try. The chicken was tender and juicy and very good, but I didn’t think it was any better than other soya chicken I’d had before. The meats were very good, but I felt that the roast pork was the best. I am a bit biased when it comes to the noodles though. Cantonese egg noodles are my favourite type of noodles and their version is bouncy and chewy and absolutely delicious. Coupled with the special soy sauce they mixed it with, the noodles were the star of the restaurant for me.
