I knew that Dotonbori (道頓堀) was famous for both shopping and food and we made it a point to make a stop here one night. It is a major tourist attraction in Osaka popular for nightlife, which explains the hundreds of neon signs that light up each night.
Built around the canal, it is also famous for having the Glico Man neon sign which thousands of people pose with every year.
Unfortunately, we visited Dotonbori just after we ate, and weren’t hungry enough to try some of its famous foods. We headed there to shop instead, but I never expected to find such an endless row of shops. This is the entrance to the covered shopping area and once you’re in, don’t expect to find the end anytime soon.
Although the area is filled with people coming in on bicycles, Japanese people are just so organized and have such wonderful systems in place. Even with all of the bicycles around, there was a neat, clear path for pedestrians to walk through.
We really wanted to try these seafood restaurants, but just didn’t have the room in our stomachs to handle it. We’ll just have to come back another day!
