Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺) is an ancient Buddhist temple in Asakusa, close to where our hotel was. This is supposed to be Tokyo’s oldest temple, so it is quite a bit tourist attraction.
As with all typical Japanese Temple complexes, the entrance is guarded by the Kaminarimon (雷門) or Thunder Gate. The Kaminarimon is the outer of the two entrance gates and usually consists of lanterns and statues.
After passing through the Thunder Gate, you will now see vendors on both sides of the path that lead up to the Temple. In Asakusa’s case, the path is especially long and Nakamise Shopping Street is a long path with vendors selling everything from souvenirs, to all sorts of snacks.
Once you’ve made your way through Nakamise Shopping Street, you will finally notice the temple at the very end.
