Two Day Trip to Yeosu

I was nearing the end of my year long stay in Korea and I had wanted to explore more of Korea before I left, so when my friend suggested going to Yeosu, I was all for it.  Busan was the furthest South I’d traveled to in Korea, and is relatively close to Yeosu, so I was looking forward to seeing how Yeosu would compare to Busan.

Yeosu is supposed to be one of the most picturesque cities in Korea, and one of the first things I noticed was the lack of crowds in Yeosu.  I guess if you’re coming from Seoul, anywhere else in Korea would look quite empty.  This was just fine with me as I knew I would enjoy the sites much more without all the crowds.

The first place we made our way to was Hwangiram Heritage (향일암).  Hwangiram is a temple complex situated on a hill that requires some hiking to get to.  Some parts of the trail were quite narrow and would be uncomfortable to walk through if you are claustrophobic.

The lack of crowds really allowed us to take in the views and enjoy our time up at the temple. Next, we proceeded to Jinnamgwan (진남관), the largest wooden pavilion in Korea.  It is located on a small hill right beside the harbour, so the views here were also quite stunning.

We headed to Odong Island (오동도), a small, scenic island with a lighthouse.  I think people come to Odong Island for the views more than anything, as there really isn’t too much to do here other than seeing the lighthouse and Dragon Cave.
